I try to catch the DNB every year when they come to Hawaii in January. This year Billy Kreutzman is going to sit in on drums. Here are some vids from shows I caught the last couple of years. Last year had Peter Rowan playing with them, and also Maria Muldaur. This is an amazing band and at $25 for tickets a great bargain.

A Different World (Great solo by Barry Sless)

This show was one of the best shows I ever attended by any band. It was a tour party show in a pavilion by the ocean one beautiful day. I wrote a review of it:

The other shows were great too! This one was one of them:

I'd love to see them with Kreutzmann or Rowan. Very recently somebody here recommended seeing them and posted a few YouTube vids, and I've been on a kick since then. Thanks to whoever that was. I've found a lot of good stuff they've played in the past few years that I had never heard before. They still put on a hell of a show.

Thanks for the links Dawg. I'll be checking them out at some point today.

Also, check this out if you haven't seen it yet:

That was me who posted it, but since no comments good, bad, or indifferent concerning the DNB appeared here I deleted the post. I have been listening to the Grateful Dead for over forty years, and the NRPS off and on for nearly as long. When I first started catching these DNB shows a few years ago here in Hawaii it seemed just like the old days... endless fun in a venue devoid of hired security and being able to "freak freely" (as Barry Sless said at one of the shows), enjoy your particular form of relaxation and listen to one of the finest bands I've ever heard! This band is of the old school, playing great music and enjoying the "tribe" vibe they bring here!
BTW Peter Rowan played a magnificent version of "Land Of The Navajo" on one of his sets... mesmerizing!

Here are the DNB and Billy K. playing a great show in Pahoa, Hi. a few years ago at one of the funkiest venues ever, The Akebono Theatre playing "The Wheel>Attics"

I wouldn't assume that just because a thread doesn't get a lot of responses, it's going unnoticed and unappreciated.

I'm really digging 2010-01-28. The FOTD and the jam that proceeds it is phenomenal. I've listened to most of the show so far, as well as parts of the 01/30 show. The Sweet Melinda and the ensuing jam also contains some incredibly inspired playing. I look forward to hearing the rest of these shows.

The 01/28 show just has such a great vibe to it. Everyone is so relaxed. Just enjoying themselves and letting some incredible music ooze out in the process. So much fun to listen to. The experience you describe in your review sounds like paradise.

Yeah, that jam out of Friend Of The Devil was amazing, the Nelson Band and Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band playing Friend Of The Devil>China/Rider Segue Jam>Midnight Rider Jam>... We all reached lift-off during that jam. You can hear the crowd reaction on the recording.
I love the way Dave Nelson peppers his sets with many of the songs Jerry used to do like Louis Collins, Ballad Of Casey Jones ect..
The show on the 30th was a big sandwich around the DNB song Fable Of A Chosen One spanning both sets with many Grateful Dead teases where it sounded like they were going into The Other One or Fire On The Mountain.
